Chateau de Loches
This castle was occupied in the twelfth century by Henry II of England and Richard the LionHeart.
Chateau de Chissay
The original was started in the seventh century by Pierre Bérard. It is now a hotel.
Chateau de Montpoupon
This castle started as a military fortress in the twelfth century and was rebuilt later in renaissance style.
Chateau de Montrésor
The first castle was built in the eleventh century by the Nerra, count of Anjou. It was destroyed and rebuilt several times. The current structure is from the second Empire.
Chateau de Chaumont-sur-Loire
Castle built over a medieval fortress in the fifteenth century. It was home to Catalina de Medicis and Diana de Poitiers. Its gardens host the yearly International Gardens Festival (April through October).
